The county did not have a flag initially. In 1693, Charles Calvert, 3rd Baron Baltimore, commissioned the creation and design of a flag for the county. WebSomerset County Hall in Taunton was completed in 1935 and designed by Emanuel Vincent Harris, who would go on to design the very similar-looking Bristol City Hall, which was begun 3 years later and completed in 1952.
